OCCF’s inaugural Imagining Mental Wellness Giving Day will take place on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. On this new Giving Day in support of mental health and wellness, 18 nonprofit organizations are collaborating to raise $500,000 to raise awareness of the most pressing mental health needs in our community, and support critical services for our most vulnerable neighbors.
Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month, dedicated to raising awareness of those living with mental or behavioral health issues and to helping reduce the stigma so many experience? Nearly one in five Americans lives with a mental health condition, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Talking openly about mental health can reduce misconceptions and can encourage those who are suffering to seek help and find a support network. It’s crucial for caregivers, friends, and loved ones to understand the impact that mental health has on daily life.
ConnectOC, an initiative of the Orange County Community Foundation, recently provided a highlight of the current mental health crisis for children in Orange County. A key data point showed requests for mental health services for children up 71% in the last 10 years. Learn more about ConnectOC’s recent findings here.
