The devastation of Hurricane Fiona has caused an island-wide blackout, leaving millions of Puerto Rican residents without power, or running water. Local nonprofits and grassroots organizations are mobilizing as quickly as possible and calling for additional aid to help meet the urgent needs of the island. Here are some nonprofits you can support to help Puerto Ricans and others in the Caribbean recover and rebuild.
Community Foundation of Puerto Rico The Puerto Rico Community Foundation activated the Community Recovery Fund for Puerto Rico (Fund for Community Recovery for Puerto Rico) to support the work of non-profit organizations that are activated to respond to the emergency.
The Hispanic Federation, a U.S. nonprofit focused on Latino empowerment, is raising money for on-the-ground emergency relief and essential supplies.
Taller Salud is a community-based, women-led nonprofit that’s also collecting aid for hurricane relief
Direct Relief is the largest nongovernmental organization donor of medical supplies. Donations will fund Hurricane Fiona relief in Puerto Rico and other areas of the Caribbean, along with emergency aid prepositioned for the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and more.
